Advised TUESDAY NIGHT 10th March

Racecourse: Cheltenham
Time: 13:30
Date: 11/03/2020
Horse: Longhouse Poet
Current Odds: 20/1 Unibet & Bet365 else 18/1 Paddy Power, Betvictor & Betfair Sportsbook
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

Envoi Allen arrives here unbeaten and has been trained and placed excellently by Gordon Elliott. The concern here is that over 2m5f on tacky ground (heavy today on times but will be drying out by tomorrow) it is worth taking on the short-priced favourite. The horse I like is Longhouse Poet who runs for the race sponsors and owners of last year winner City Island. Firstly, I will say that Longhouse Poet is a different racehorse to City Island in that he is more of a galloper than a horse possessing a turn of foot. Nevertheless, he brings good hurdling experience into this race following four hurdle runs, two of which were at Grade 1 level. He finished runner up to Elixir D’ainay on his hurdling debut and we saw today that horse going well only for Asterion Forlonge to help him fall over the penultimate hurdle in the supreme hurdle.

Once stepped up to two and a half miles our selection showed improvement winning at Navan and then staying on well behind Envoi Allen at Naas in the Lawlor’s of Naas hotel hurdle (Grade 1). On that occasion Derek O’Connor rode and didn’t give Longhouse Poet a hard ride that day once the front two were gone clear. The closer they got to the line the more Envoi Allen was coming back to Longhouse poet which bodes well for tomorrow. On his last run at the Dublin Racing Festival he got in too tight to the final hurdle when leading handing the initiative to Last Exhibition who is a very good horse and favourite for the Albert Bartlett hurdle on Friday. Longhouse Poet fought back valiantly but ultimately got a bit tired not fully seeing out the 2m6f trip around the stiff Leopardstown racecourse. Trainer Mark Brassil will have him primed for this race which has been his main target all season.

Racecourse: Cheltenham
Time: 14:50
Date: 10/03/2020
Horse: Dame De Compagnie
Current Odds: 6/1 Skybet, Coral & Ladbrokes, all paying 6 places
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

Dame De Compagnie is a rather obvious, however her form ensures she deserves to be at the head of the market. She ran well in the Greatwood hurdle where fifth to Harambe doing her best work at the finish. Nicky Henderson stepped her up in trip to 2m4.5f at the Cheltenham December meeting and she won nicely from a good mare called Indefatigable on soft ground. Connections decided to put her away and save her for this race off an 8lb higher mark of 140. She carries a lovely weight of 10-12, has Barry Geraghty riding and has won twice at Cheltenham so handles the course well. She remains unexposed on her eight run over hurdles and today we learned that the Nicky Henderson string are in top order.

Racecourse: Cheltenham
Time: 14:50
Date: 11/03/2020
Horse: Black Tears
Current Odds: 18/1 William Hill, Unibet & Betvictor, all paying 5 places
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

Black Tears is another mare that can go close to landing this valuable handicap. She jumped the last hurdle in second place in the mares novice hurdle at the festival last season before ending up fourth. She is thriving on her racing and won very impressively at the Dublin Racing Festival despite being the “meat in the sandwich” over the final hurdle. At Punchestown on her latest run she split the Willie Mullins pair of Elflle and Laurina. The winner Elflle ran well to finish third today in the mares race so that form reads well. Black Tears finished off her race strongly at Punchestown and will relish going up to 2m5f where her turn of foot can be seen to good effect off a strong pace. Davy Russell rides and will not want to end up in front too soon as happened sort of accidentally today with Abracadabras! Alfa Mix has been purchased by JP McManus while Carnardier didn’t stay last year but might go well for new trainer Willie Mullins.

Racecourse: Cheltenham
Time: 17:30
Date: 10/03/2020
Horse: Five Par Brian
Current Odds: 33/1 Ladbrokes else 28/1 Bet365 & Coral, all paying 4 places
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

Five Par Brian has been ignored by the betting market and looks excellent value. All the attention is focused on the other Willie Mullins trained pair of Appreciate It and Ferny Hollow. Five Par Brian finished runner up on his racecourse debut to Star of Lanka (decent handicap hurdler this season). That Newcastle bumper was over 1m6.5f on soft ground and was plenty short enough. He missed last season but has been switched to Willie Mullins making a winning Irish debut at Fairyhouse.

Patrick Mullins who rode him at Fairyhouse was pushing him along rounding into the straight and next thing he was on the bridle cruising two furlongs from home. He was sent on to win his race and idled a bit nearing the line. As we know the majority of Willie Mullins trained horses improve from run to run and I fully expect Five Par Brian to step forward again significantly here with the cut in the ground no problem. David Mullins is booked to ride and looks to have a very good chance aboard this forgotten bumper performer. He was available at 40/1 this evening but the price has shortened, however he is still worth backing at a big price each way.

Racecourse: Cheltenham
Time: 14:10
Date: 12/03/2020
Horse: Relegate
Current Odds: 7/1 Skybet 6 places else 7/1 Paddy Power, Betfair SB, Betvictor, Betfred & Betway, all paying 5 places.
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 1.0 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

Relegate gave Katie Walsh a massive thrill when landing the champion bumper at this festival two years ago. She came from the back of the field to mow all runners down and get up to win by a neck from Carefully Selected. Last season she ran three times over hurdles winning once and running a huge race to place fifth behind Commander of Fleet in a Grade 1 hurdle (2m6f) during the Dublin Racing Festival. Maybe, it was the good to yielding ground but for whatever reason her hurdling was very slow and deliberate that day. She lost lengths over the hurdles get powered home for fifth showing what a powerful engine she has with stamina not an issue. Owner Paul McKeown switched her to new trainer and friend Colm Murphy who came out of trainer retirement this sesaon. Colm must have put in some serious work schooling the mare as she hurdled really good at Punchestown in a qualifier for this race coming home fourth. No doubt she will step forward again and she is the one they all have to beat in this race off a mark of 137 and with Paul Townend booked to ride!
