Advised SATURDAY MORNING 1st FEBRUARY

Racecourse: Leopardstown
Time: 13:25
Date: 01/02/2020
Horse: Min
Current Odds: 5/2 generally, & BOG
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 1 Point Win
Selection Reasoning

A cracking renewal with the best two-mile chasers in Ireland all turning up. Willie Mullins has a very strong hand running Chacun Pour Soi, Cilaos Emery and Min with the main danger A Plus Tard trained by Henry De Bromhead. A Plus Tard outstayed Chacun Pour Soi over Christmas but had the benefit of a run at Navan in November. Willie Mullins trained runners were lacking fitness over Christmas but will match fit this time round. The biggest danger to Chacun Pour Soi will come from his own stable. Min won the John Durkan at Punchestown despite not jumping fluently and arrives here a fresh horse.

Paul Townend has chosen to ride Chacun Pour Soi but it must have been a very difficult choice to make. Cilaos Emery is very talented but lightly raced. He loves soft ground and destroyed Ballyoisin at Cork in a Grade 2 in December. A highly talented horse who beat champion hurdle runner up Melon at the 2017 Punchestown festival over hurdles. Both Chancun Pour Soi and Cilaos Emery lack experience having only races four and three times over fences respectively. A seriously good renewal and it is Min who looks good value against inexperienced rivals having won this race easily last season.

Racecourse: Leopardstown
Time: 14:35
Date: 01/02/2020
Horse: Batcio
Current Odds: 6/1 Betfred & Betvictor paying 5 places else 11/2 with others paying 5 places & BOG
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

Batcio ran very well over course and distance at the Christmas meeting when second to a rejuventated Drumconner Lad. That day our selection made up ground from the back catching the eye travelling and jumping very well. He gave his all but just failed to reel in the winner with both first and second pulling 9l clear of third places Allardyce. That was only the fifth chase run for Batcio and his first in a handicap. This is a better race today but the positives are Batcio is a progressive chaser carrying a featherweight of 9-10 with Luke Dempsey booked to ride.

Racecourse: Leopardstown
Time: 15:45
Date: 01/02/2020
Horse: Buildmeupbuttercup
Current Odds: 6/1 William Hill, Betvictor, Coral & Ladbrokes, all paying 5 places & BOG
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 1/2 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

Buildmeupbuttercup was beaten but a good one in Janadil in a Grade A handicap hurdle at the Fairyhouse Winter festival. She might have won but for meeting the final hurdle on a poor stride handing the inititive back to the winner. Our selection carried 10-7 at Fairyhouse and has the same weight today even though the handicapper raised her 4lbs for her efforts at Fairyhouse. Paul Townend has chosen to ride Buildmeupbuttercup from the seven Willie Mullins trained runners and that decision has to be respected. Buildmeupbuttercup is a high class middle distance flat horse who finished runner up in the Irish November handicap off a rating of 98. If she can hurdle better than at Fairyhouse she must have a very good chance albetit a fiercely competitive race.

Racecourse: Leopardstown
Time: 15:35
Date: 01/02/2020
Horse: Fan De Blues
Current Odds: 22/1 Paddy Power, Betfair SB & Skybet, all 6 places else 22/1 generally look for at least 5 places & BOG
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 1/2 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

I’m siding with another Willie Mullins trained runner who impressed when winning on his Irish debut at Thurles. Willie stated following that Thurles win that he was delighted with the horse as he looked “as big as a bull to me when I saw him with his number cloth on” before that race. As we know the Willie Mullins yard is hitting top form and if Fan Des Blues is to make it to the Cheltenham Festival he needs to win or go very close this afternoon. He has good experience over fences and hurdles in France so that will help him in this big field handicap. The faster they go the better as he has plenty of stamina and will handle the softish going no problem. Fan De Blues carries only 9-13 due to his lowly rating and that has ruled out many of the stable jockeys. Yes, Katie Farrell could of rode him but the booking of Conor McNamara claiming 5lbs is a positive as he oen of our better claiming jockeys having ridden 22 winners this season already. Including Conor’s 5lb claim, Fan De Blues will carry 9-8 on his back and could be very well treated as he is very much unexposed.
