Selection Reasoning:

Just That Lord  has an excellent Epsom record that reads 2331. He beat Dark Shot over course and distance in April on fast ground and has been kept fresh for this race. Dark Shot franked the form with a close second to Duke of Firenze at York lately. They have gone up the weights more than Just the Lord who beat them in April and races here off a 3lb higher mark. Last year in this race he jumped fast from his low draw in stall 1 before working his way over towards the stands rail getting the better of Caspian Prince in the duel up front. It was to the horses credit that he plugged on to hold third place having done more than plenty early in the race. Drawn low again but in stall 5 the ground will be more to his liking and they can race up the middle unlike on soft ground when the stands rail is the only place to be.

Hathiq

Current Odds:

9/2 Skybet 6 places else 9/2 generally look for bookies paying 5 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Hathiq is the sole Irish raider and short priced favourite. He has won twice in facile fashion for trainer Denis Hogan and looks a proper sprinter. Very lightly raced having broke a pelvis when trained by Owen Burrows and subsequently purchased cheaply for £3,000 by current connections. Hathiq is seriously well in here as his current Irish rating is 95 get due to this race being an early closer he carries only a 4lb penalty for his facile win at the Curragh last weekend leaving him 7lbs well in on ratings. The other positive is for a horse so lightly raced he has bags of scope for improvement with Denis Hogan saying last week he is the quickest horse he has ever trained and that included his good sprinter Titonus who won the Rockingham and Scurry handicaps at he Curragh two seasons ago. If Hathiq runs his race and handles this course then he should win and Denis does not travel horses to the UK unless they have a good chance of winning prize money.

Selection Reasoning:

A fascinating race as ever and always a highlight of every season. Who will be the best middle distance three year old of 2019? The fact Aidan O’Brien runs 7 out of 13 runners just shows how important this race is to the Coolmore international breeding operation. They have supplemented Sir Dragonet as has connections of Telecaster at a cost of £80,000! Telecaster has been unlucky with a low draw in stall 2 which is not a positive climbing the hill from the gates. Sir Dragonet and Broome are drawn higher and while I respect the favouite I am a big fan of Broome.

Broome ran big races last season over a mile at Group 1 and 2 level when always looking sure to appreciate going out in trip as a 3yo. Two wins from two in the Irish Derby trials at Leopardstown read well and while many were not impressed by his latest victory at Leopardstown I sure was. He gave the leaders plenty of rope that day settled out the back on the inner and came through horses to run his best furlong over the final furlong. That run was a very educational run for Broome and I’m hoping that Broome will reap the dividends at Epsom tomorrow with stamina assured.
