Name of Horse to Back

Wentworth Falls

Current Odds:

12/1 generally, look for bookies paying 5 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Wentworth Falls in in good form this season and showed up very well over course and distance on similar fast ground when runner up to Soldier’s minute at the Dante meeting. Wentworth Falls meets that winner off 8lbs better terms and is well drawn in stall 10. He has been banging on the door and his turn will come one of these days.

Racecourse & Time

Name of Horse to Back

Savalas

Current Odds:

10/1 in places, look for bookies paying 5 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Savalas has a much better draw than when fourth to Soldier’s minute at the Dante Meeting. We know he handles quick ground and this trip having just failed off a rating of 98 against Encrypted last summer. Tomorrow, he is down to a mark of 92 and is 10lbs better off with Soldier’s minute on their meeting in May. He looks to have a good chance drawn in the middle with Tom Eaves booked to ride.

Racecourse & Time

Newcastle – 15:35

Advised Stake & Bet Type

1/2 Point Each Way

Name of Horse to Back

Speedo Boy

Current Odds:

14/1 generally, look for bookies paying 5 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Speedo Boy ran a great trial for this race when runner up to Red Galileo at Newmarket three weeks ago. That race was run over 1m6f and we can forgive him his run in the Chester Cup where the ground was too soft. A draw in double digit numbers is no bad thing in this stayers race with the past two winners drawn 11 and 13 and the majority of placed horses drawn high as well. Ian Williams is a shrewd trainer who knows how to peak a horse for a big day as we saw again at Royal Ascot with The Grand Visir landing the Ascot Stakes. Speedo Boy is 5lbs better off this time round with Red Galileo who carries a penalty and that weight along with the extra couple of furlongs gives him a good chance of getting involved in the finish here with Clifford Lee booked to ride.

Name of Horse to Back

Proschema

Current Odds:

11/1 generally, look for bookies paying 5 places, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

The case for Proschema is very similar to that of Speedo Boy in that he is better off at the weights with Red Galileo, drawn high and should appreciate this trip. He rallied late at Newmarket over 1m6f and was closing again nearing the line on quick ground. This standard ground will suit him better and he looks the type to improve for the extra couple of furlongs. Trainer Tom Dascombe has aided his chance by putting up Jane Elliott who takes a further 3lbs off his back leaving just 9 stone to be carried. Proschema was one of the better three year old stayers last season finishing third in the Melrose Stakes at York and then runner up in another good handicap over 1m6f at York in October to Elegiac. Young horses do well in these top class handicaps with scope for improvement.

Racecourse & Time

Curragh – 17:20

Advised Stake & Bet Type

1 Point Win

Name of Horse to Back

Madhmoon

Current Odds:

5/2 in places, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

Anthony Van Dyck, Madhmoon and Broome all renew rivalry following just half a length separating them in the Epsom Derby. It will be a good race once again following Japan franking the form strongly at Royal Ascot. The ground has come in favour of Madhmoon and Anthony Van Dyck and reluctantly we leave Broome aside. Madhmoon went for home a bit early in the Epsom Derby but his hand was forced with Sir Dragonet coming up his outside. I believe Madhmoon is the fastest horse in this race and Chris Hayes can make amends for Epsom by riding a patient race around this more conventional racecourse. What a huge win it would be for trainer Kevin Prendergast who is 86 years old and looking to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather both named Paddy Prendergast. If interested there is a wonderful interview with Kevin Prendergast earlier this year available at https://www.theirishfield.ie/the-big-interview-kevin-prendergast-450395/
