Vinndication was top of our ratings for the Sodexco Gold Cup at Ascot (3.40) but unfortunately he tops the betting market too so we look elsewhere for the value and Adrien Du Pont stands out in that regard.
He ran a cracker in this last year, finishing fourth having stumbled badly when landing after the last. Whether he would have won is debatable but he would certainly have finished closer to the winner Traffic Fluide. Indeed he has very good form at this track, including a second to Coney Island no less, and also a one length second to Happy Diva.
Connections learnt a lot from his subsequent run at Newbury and he won a similar contest over three miles at Kempton when ridden cold. Today's trip is certainly as far as he wants but there will be plenty of pace up front so he should settle nicely and finish strongly. He runs well fresh and Lorcan Williams takes off a valuable 3 lbs.
This is a decent contest which should throw up plenty of future winners. Black Corton was a very unlucky second in the Galway Plate last summer and the top weight just may need the run. On The Blind Side is hard to work out but is certainly talented, while track and trip winner Mister Malarky is very much in the mix. At the prices though Adrien Du Pont is hard to resist!
