Titan to Rock in Thirsk Hunt Cup

It's a big day as the flat turf racing takes over centre stage.

The 2000 guineas is the first classic of the season at Newmarket, however we target the Thirsk Hunt cup which offers a better betting opportunity.

Titan Rock has dropped down to a workable handicap mark of 82. Sean Quinn has joined his father John on the training license, and we know the Quinn family are masters of targeting big handicaps. Thirsk is an easy flat left turning course that will be perfect for Titan Rock who wears a first-time hood.

Last season he almost won at the York Dante meeting following his all-weather campaign over 7f on fast ground. He lost his form and returned from a summer break to finish second here over 7f and then just fail at Ayr over a mile, beaten by Revich on good to soft ground. If the hood helps this horse to settle well early doors, then he has a great winning chance.

Thirsk has a rich racing heritage and history. Our association with horse racing can be traced back as far as 1612. The first race meeting on the current course was held in 1855 and the Thirsk Hunt Cup, run over one mile every spring, has been a feature of the Thirsk season for over 100 years.

Home exclusively to flat race meetings, Thirsk Racecourse is a flat, left-handed oval of about one mile two furlongs in circumference, with a run-in of just over three furlongs from the home bend to the Winning Post. There is also a six furlong chute, which is slightly undulating.
