The Hennessy ...Labrokes ....Coral Gold Cup is one of those major historic chases throughout the jumps season. It pitches experienced chasers against second season chasers with the latter holding sway.
A fantastic race won by the likes of Denman, Bobs Worth, Many Clouds & Native River. We want to be with the second season, up and coming chasers who remain ahead of the handicapper.
We know Oscar Elite from the Ultima Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. He meets his Cheltenham conqueror Corach Rambler on 6lbs better terms tomorrow. Oscar Elite took a wide passage all the way round in the Ultima conceding a lot of ground to those racing on the inner. He looked the winner turning for home but ultimately ran out of steam. A wind operation in the summer will have helped and he returned with a nice prep run over hurdles at Wetherby to protect his chase mark of this race. The Tizzards’ runs nice horses in this race and last year trained Fidderontheroof in second. Colin trained Sizing Tennessee and Native River to win this race recently too. Oscar Elite will love the nice ground and carries a nice low weight of 10-7.
Gericault Roque finished runner up in the Ultima Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last March. He got the better of Oscar Elite only to get ran down late by Corach Rambler whom he meets on 6lbs better terms tomorrow. David Pipe runs two and we cannot forget watching our selection last year Remastered fall when coming with a big run! Remastered returns this year in good form but the ground is lively and Tom Scudamore has chosen to ride Gericault Roque. Gericault Roque carries a nice low weight of 10-7 and is a very good jumper. He can race on the front end which is a positive in this race and generally around Newbury. A good jumping rhythm is necessary to get home over a truly run 3m2f and this lad will not be hanging about for the David Pipe team.
Of the older chasers, the likes of Fiddlerontheroof & Potterman hold outsite chances.
