Time does in deed fly and hard to believe we are already well into the Flat Turf season with the Newmarket Guineas Meeting this weekend. In fact it’s just over four weeks to Epsom Derby weekend and not long thereafter to the 5 day Royal Ascot Meeting!

This post reviews how the National Hunt season proper (September Listowel Harvest Festival meeting through to the Punchestown Festival) went for Full Members of the Bet Alchemist Service.

The season started pretty well but we had a poor November showing a loss but thereafter it was all positive especially in January before a quiet end to the season with less than expected and hoped for results and profits during the busy spring festival Months of March and April.

Full Members enjoyed a tidy 26.51% return on investment (ROI) with those betting to £50 stakes accumulating £3,128.15 (Tax Free) to their betting banks thanks to 62.56 points profit generated. Who believes each way betting doesn’t pay? Not us!

Below is a table containing an overview of all bets and results for the 2016/2017 NH season.

The Win and Place strike rates were excellent for a value betting service where we hit combined win and place percentages greater than 33.33%.

Nicky really concentrated on quality over quantity once again this National Hunt season and it paid off handsomely. In fact the results mirror very closely those achieved during the 2015/2016 Jumps season where there were 210 bets in total compared to 231 this season.

In fact the win/placed runners percentage was the exact same at 33.33% which is remarkably consistent betting. However, in view of the rather lacklustre end to the season at the major festivals it was frustrating not to have achieved a higher return on investment along with win/place strike rate.

My personal seasonal highlight was Un Temp Pour Tout who just got back up to hold Singlefarmpayment in the Ultima Handicap Chase on Day 1 of the Cheltenham festival. In winning that race Un Temp Pour Tout smashed an age old statistic regarding rating and top weights winning that race.

Away from our involvement from a betting perspective I thought the Punchestown Gold Cup had everything you could wish for in a staying chase at the top level. Former Gold Cup winner Coneygree went out in front jumping for fun but also setting a very high tempo putting it up to the young Djakadam and Sizing John in behind. In the end it was the younger legs that took over between the final two fences and a mistake over the final fence cost Djakadam momentum handing a slimmer of hope to Sizing John who seized his opportunity with “all 4 legs” showing bravery as he dug deep to just prevail.

From a betting perspective only, Noble Endeavour at 14/1, Peat The Feat at 28/1, Ice Cold Soul at 25/1,Ziga Boy at 12/1, Many Clouds at 8/1, Tully East at 12/1, Un Temp Pour Tout at 14/1, Vincente at 10/1 & Definite Ruby at 10/1 all hugely helped to see Bet Alchemist Full Members easily come out on top against the bookies during the 2016/2017 National Hunt Season.

Less we forget it all starts again next September but before then we have all the Flat Racing festivals to enjoy such as the 5 Day Royal Ascot Meeting, 5 Day Glorious Goodwood Meeting & 7 Day Galway Festival both Jumps and flat, etc.

There you have it, a quick review of the 2016/2017 National Hunt season. An excellent few Months work. Confidence is high and go all out for rake in more profits during the current Flat season with the first classics of 2017 at Newmarket this weekend.
