Dreaming of Plate Victory

The Irish Derby takes place at 7:15, however it is the Pitmans Derby (3:35) that offers the better value betting opportunity for sure!

Alan King is enjoying a tremendous run on the flat this month having won three races at the Royal Meeting. He trained the winner of the Northumberland Plate last season with Who Dares Wins and looks to have another good chance with his sole runner Rainbow Dreamer. Rainbow Dreamer loves the all weather surfaces and was aiming for five wins in a row when placing fourth in the re-arranged Group 3 Sagaro Stakes here three weeks ago.

That was a promising run off a break against Gold Cup contenders. This renewal is not as deep as last year with the prize money on offer almost 70k less to the winner. The result of a congested racing programme since racing returned this month and less prize money is that the bottom weight is rated 84 this year compared to 96 last season! Rainbow Dreamer is proven on the surface, course and trip so should be bang there or thereabouts at the finish.

Ascot 4:10

1 Point EACH WAY Rainbow Dreamer (7/1 Paddy Power, Betfair SB & Skybet, all paying 6 places)
