Course Form Key in Badger Beer Chase

An excellent Saturday afternoon of high class jump racing to enjoy. We have Grade 1 action at Down Royal with last years top staying novice Gerri Colombe testing his Gold Cup credentials.

At Aintree there is the Grand Sefton handicap chase over the national fences. For this column I have decided to go with our Badger Beer handicap chase tip. If you want the rest of my tips this Saturday then you can become a full member here

Certainly Red improved massively last season winning three chases in a row. The handicapper had his say raising him from a mark of 122 to 142! Two of those wins came over course and distance which is a major plus. We can forgive his final run of the season in the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown. He made a few jumping mistakes and was ridden by a claiming jockey rather than regular jockey Marc Goldstein.

This race looks to have been the plan with his course form and even though he is rated 140 he carries a nice weight of 10-10. Certainly Red stays strongly with stamina in abundance and I think Frodon could be vulnerable on softer ground than last year when he won carrying 12 stone on fast ground.

It's a select field of 11 runners with Ashtown Lad tempting but maybe the Becher Chase at Aintree next month is his main early season target.

Wincanton – 2:25

1 point each way Certainly Red 8/1 Bet365 else 7/1 generally, 4 places.
