Selection Reasoning:

Spoof is worth chancing at a big price with a decent record running off the back of a short break. He is a very quick horse and this race should be run to suit thanks to front runners Only Spoofing and Justanotherbottle. Spoof has dropped 8lbs in the ratings this season which reflects his lack of progress from three to four years old. However, he ran well for a long way at York in May over six furlongs finding that trip too far. The quick ground allied to his favourite trip of 5 furlongs and a decent draw in stall 7 give Spoof a decent opportunity of getting back into the winners enclosure.

Racecourse & Time

Chester – 14:10

Advised Stake & Bet Type

1 Point Win

Name of Horse to Back

Oh This Is Us

Selection Reasoning:

Oh This Is Us is aiming to win this race for the second time having won very impressively last season from a 3lb higher mark. Last weekend at Goodwood he was a very unfortunate loser when all dressed up with nowhere to go stuck on the rail. Oh This Is Us looked to have plenty left in the tank crossing the line so didn’t endure a hard race. Drawn in stall 6 he will take a lead and hopefully pounce late showing his telling turn of foot. A dual listed class winner running in a handicap off an 8lb lower mark than at the start of this season he looks dangerously well handicapped. This race is not shown on ITV so it will be Sky racing for our Big Saturday Race this weekend.

Racecourse & Time

Chelmsford – 19:15

Advised Stake & Bet Type

1/2 Point Each Way

Name of Horse to Back

Gulliver

Current Odds:

33/1 Skybet 5 places else 40/1 Paddy Power & Betfair SB 4 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

This is a valuable handicap and well done to Chelmsford on hosting a competitive 15 runner heritage handicap. Cenotaph landed this prize last season and has his first start for new trainer Simon Crisford following the retirement of Jeremy Noseda following the Royal meeting. Cenotaph is talented for sure but very hit and miss and I prefer to side with Gulliver who is available at a much bigger price.

Gulliver was in great form during the earlier part of this summer like when beating Growl at York over 6 furlongs on quick ground. I think we can forgive his recent runs on soft ground and he did run well inbetween those soft ground runs when sixth in the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood off a 2lb higher rating. Louis Steward is booked to ride and while he is drawn wide in stall 12 he has the speed to grab a good position and will stay this trip around a bend. Gulliver finished third in a conditions stakes race over course and distance last September when rated 105. He looks well treated off 7lbs lower here.
