Selection Reasoning:
Cowboy Soldier did really well to win on his seasonal debut at Kempton where drawn wide in stall 9. He came wide into the straight before picking up to win impressively. He was gelded during the winter and is out of Kodiac who offers plenty of speed to his progeny. Trainer Robert Cowell is a dab hand with sprinters and we can expect Cowboy Soldier to keep progressing having just turned four years old. The ground is pretty lively at York this week but Robert Cowell has always rated his horse highly and hopefully he remains injury free this season to allow him show his best on the track.

Selection Reasoning:
Royal Birth is rated 10lbs lower on turf than on the sand which makes him an interesting runner here even if drawn high in stall 22. He has been in top form this year on the all weather winning at Lingfield and finishing second twice all over this trip. The fast ground will suit him well and he has only 8-7 on his back. Trainer Stuart Williams hasn’t raced him on turf since 2017 but must think him dangerously well handicapped off 90 and worth another go on the turf especially with the ground on the quick side. Royal Birth looks overpriced and might even drift to a bigger price tomorrow if not tipped up by one of the trade paper tipsters.

Selection Reasoning:
Love Dreams just failed to land the spoils at Goodwood in a decent handicap over a mile 12 days ago. He bounced out well and had them all beaten two furlongs out bar the winner Kimifive who was trying a mile for the first time. The handicapper has raised Love Dreams 2lbs to 95 which still leaves him 5lbs below the mark of 100 he finished runner up in this race to Afaak last season. On this fast ground this race will suit a front runner and Love Dreams could be the answer with Franny Norton riding. He’s drawn in stall 11 but was drawn 9 last year so that will not beat him.
