Selection Reasoning:

Tarboosh started off this season rated 108 having won oh so impressively at Doncaster at the backend of last season over 5 furlongs on good to soft ground carrying 9-10. He was drawn away from the pace that day but yet was able to quicken to lead his group, going clear before drifting over to hold off the far group challengers which included plenty lining up here. Tarboosh has not hit that form this season and has had a wind operation before his recent run. Now that he has had a run following his wind op his confidence should be restored and he looks overpriced. He has a very good turn of foot and will have plenty of pace to follow with Caspian Prince and Final Venture drawn nearby.

Name of Horse to Back

Gunmetal

Current Odds:

12/1 generally, look for bookies paying 5 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Gunmetal was a late withdrawal at Ripon last weekend in the Great St Wilfrid. The soft ground was not suitable and his connections can gain reward for that decision by landing this valuable sprint. He caught the eye here over the minimum trip in May when making up a lot of ground from the back, finishing fourth to Duke of Firenze. This time he is 2lbs lower in the handicap and will relish the extra half a furlong having won mostly over 6 furlongs. The forecast good ground should slow down the out and out speedsters giving Gunmetal a good chance to come over the top off a strong pace.

Japan

Current Odds:

6/1 Unibet, Paddy Power & Betfair Sportsbook, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Japan is the choice of Ryan Moore ahead of Circus Maximus which looks very significant. Aidan O’Brien has been talking up Japan as his best 3yo and this is a massive test. Japan landed his first Group 1 in France over 1m4f having finished third in the Epsom Derby in a bunch finish. At Royal Ascot he won impressively in the Group 2 King Edward VII stakes and looks progressive. He did race over course and distance in the Dante Stakes but was short of fitness that day behind Telecaster and Too Darn Hot. Crystal Ocean ran a cracker in the King George when just held by Enable and will be hard to beat. Nevertheless our selection Japan gets a tidy 7lbs weight for age allowance and should be involved in the finish.

Name of Horse to Back

Charles Kingsley

Current Odds:

15/2 generally, look for bookies paying 5 places, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

Charles Kingsley was beaten by his stablemate Kings Advice at Goodwood in a very competitive and valuable handicap hurdle. The winner is one of the favourites for Saturday’s Ebor handicap which goes to show the standard of that Goodwood race. Charles Kingsley was beaten 4l finding the pace too strong at the finish. He will appreciate this slight drop in class and the easier underfoot conditions. This son of New Approach has been very busy this season but continues to run to a high level either winning or hitting the frame in the vast majority of his races.
