Selection Reasoning:
Kilkishen will relish this trip having accounted for So Mo Laoch easily at Fairyhouse on New Years Day. The runner up has gone on to win an amateur national on this course franking the Fairyhouse form in no uncertain manner. Kilkishen carries only 9-10 despite a 9lb hike in the ratings for his recent win. He jumps well and has Sean Bowen travelling over to take the ride today. The good to yielding ground will suit and all looks set fair for a big run.

Selection Reasoning:
Solomn Grundy stayed on strongly when finishing fourth in the Paddy Power handicap chase at Christmas. That is really strong form and it looked on the day like his claiming rider left the horse with too much to do coming from well off the pace. The handicapper sure seems to think that hitting the horse with a 7lb hike in the ratings for finishing fourth! The third home that day Fitzhenry was given a 2lb rise in the weights!
It will be close between the pair again especially on revised terms but I do like the chances of Solomn Grundy and more so with Tom Scudamore travelling over for the ride. This race is an Irish Grand National trial but is a very valuable race with €59,000 to the winner. Solomn Grundy carries 10-3 and should relish this extra trip looking a chaser back in form since switching yards to Henry De Bromhead.
