Advised Saturday Morning 01st August

Racecourse: Goodwood
Time: 13:50
Date: 01/08/2020
Horse: Primo's Comet
Current Odds: 28/1 William Hill 5 places else 25/1 Betvictor & Betfred both paying 5 places
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

Rewaayat will need to have a slightly off day as he won very impressively at Salisbury three weeks ago. However, they are not machines and in a 17 runner handicap I want to take on the hot favourite with a horse who has good course form. Tommy G is back for more and on a good mark but the value lies with his stablemate Primo’s Comet ridden by Paddy Mathers. He finished fourth in this race last season off a 3lbs higher mark and looks to have been aimed at this race.

Horse: Barbill
Current Odds: 22/1 Paddy Power, Betfair SB & Skybet, all paying 6 places & BOG
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

A fantastic race which was very kind to us two years ago when Gifted Master won on the line! Let’s take on the front of the market with two well handicapped horses at double digit prices. First up is Barbill representing trainer Mick Channon. Barbill looks well treated having won nicely first time out this season at Haydock when too quick for both Kimifive and Aljady. The handicapper raised him 5lbs for that success which looks lenient today following the subsequent success of Aljady who is races from a pound higher mark. Barbill has always been highly regarded racing at pattern level as a 2yo. He won the valuable sales race at the Curragh on Irish Champions weekend before going on to finish third at Newmarket in the Group 3 Cornwallis Stakes. Last season as a 3yo he ran inconsistently and was gelding over the winter. That procedure seems to have done the trick as he won well at Haydock and should step forward again today. He is drawn high in stall 21 with pace both high and low so it’s a guess where the best draw will be!

Racecourse: Goodwood
Time: 15:35
Date: 01/08/2020
Horse: Open Wide
Current Odds: 25/1 Paddy Power, Skybet & Betfair SB all three paying 6 places else 25/1 Bet365 5 places and 1/4 place odds, all are BOG
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

Open Wide has a great turn of foot coming from off the pace in a strongly run sprint handicap on fast ground. Those conditions are pretty rare each season but this race provides his ideal conditions. He will need plenty of luck as Pat Dobbs will be weaving a passage through a block of horses over the final furlong. Last year in this race he met a little trouble in running yet came home very fast to claim second place behind the winner Khaadem who is a Group level horse. Open Wide races from a 3lb lower mark this afternoon with locally based trainer Amanda Perrett runners going well this week. A draw in stall 12 is close to where he jumped from last season (stall 8) and he carries a featherweight of 8-8.

Racecourse: Galway
Time: 15:45
Date: 01/08/2020
Horse: Yafordadoe
Current Odds: 11/2 William Hill, Skybet, Boylesports, Betfred & Betway, all paying 5 places & all bar William Hill BOG.
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 1.0 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

Yafordadoe sluiced up here on soft ground last October when coming from last to first going wide into the straight over 7 furlongs. He has been hurdling since that win and managed to win a weak hurdle race with ease at Cork a week ago. As a four year he should be stronger and well able to see out this extended mile trip on his favoured soft going. Gavin Cromwell has booked Andrew Slattery again but this time his valuable claim is 3lbs rather than 5lbs last October. He looks primed to run a big race for connections from a good draw in stall 4. Aussie Valentine was tempting on soft ground but is getting on at 9 years of age for a slog up the Galway hill.

Racecourse: Galway
Time: 17:15
Date: 01/08/2020
Horse: Takarengo
Current Odds: 16/1 Bet365 4 places 1/4 odds else 14/1 Paddy Power & Betfair SB both 5 places, all BOG
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

I am giving Takarengo another chance as he ran better than his finishing positions of 11th on Monday night. He got lit up on that occasion and raced too freely on the front end for Lisa O’Neill. A bit of trouble up the finishing straight cost him a few lengths or else he would have finished closer than 5l off winner Princess Zoe. Dropping back down to a mile and a half on soft ground will suit and he is well drawn in stall 1. Last October he produced an eye catching run when winning at Leopardstown over this trip on similar ground. Billy Lee has been booked to ride and he has a lovely low weight of 8-13 off a good handicap mark of 83.
