Selection Reasoning:

Course form is very important at Goodwood especially over the sprint course with most of it run downhill. Paddy Power beat Boy In The Bar here in May when getting first run on the runner up and is a pound better off at the weights today. The course, distance and ground are similar tomorrow but the key is the pace horse Ballyquin is drawn high in stall 19. Paddy Power is a quirky horse but on a going day has the ability to land a race like this having proven he can handle quick going. Joe Fanning is booked to ride and can track the leaders before pouncing late at a big price.

Advised Stake & Bet Type

Name of Horse to Back

George Bowen

Current Odds:

33/1 generally, look for bookies paying 6 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

George Bowen was fifth in this race last season when ridden out the back before coming home strongly. He is a talented horse with a turn of foot and enjoys the strong pace in these big field handicaps allowing him to come over the top. This season he was in great form on the all-weather finishing runner up to Kachy in the final of the sprint championship. On turf his form has not been as good but this race will have been in mind of his shrewd trainer Richard Fahey. George Bowen has his trip and ground and enjoys a good record at this course. He is drawn high in stall 25 with the pace horse Ornate in stall 15 most likely to come up the middle of the course.

Name of Horse to Back

Lake Volta

Current Odds:

16/1 generally, look for bookies paying 6 places, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

Lake Volta had course and distance winning form after winning nicely here off the front end in May. In behind that day was Tis Marvellous who romped home at Ascot in a competitive 5 furlong handicap earlier this month. Lake Volta is a very consistent horse who handles good to firm ground having won twice on it. He is a dual winner over 7 furlongs so we want to see Joe Fanning up there in the van so to speak as Lake Volta will see out this trip very well. Lake Volta ran well in the Bunbury Cup won by his stablemate Vale of Kent who finished second in the golden mile today.  Mark Johnston trained horses are known for bouncing back from slightly below par runs with this drop in trip a positive for Lake Volta.
