Selection Reasoning:

Kimberlite Candy stayed on well behind Classic Ben to finish third, beaten just over 2l in the Masters Handicap Chase at Sandown. That run was just three weeks ago but this horse looks to be crying out for further and galloped through the line well three weeks ago. His form is mainly on heavy or soft ground but there is a bit of cut in the ground at Newcastle. Trainer Tom Lacey has his string back in rude health and Richie McLernon has sided with this JP McManus owned runner which is another positive. Kimberlite Candy is a big horse that has required time and patience having always been regarded as a distance chaser. He will get his chance to shine tomorrow and looks well treated on a mark of 139.

Progressive Drive

Current Odds:

14/1 Boylesports, Skybet, Betfred & Totesport all 5 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Progressive Drive and Baywing run for trainer Nicky Richards. The ground might be too lively for Baywing who won this prize last season so it is Progressive Drive whom is preferred. He ran fourth behind Kimberlite Candy at Ayr in November and then improved to place third in the Borders National behind Harry the Viking. At the weights Progressive Drive has a good chance of reversing placings with Harry the Viking who runs here at the grand age of 14. Nicky Richards has given Progressive Drive a wind operation and hopefully that will help etch out some more improvement. He remains lightly raced over fences with this run his eight chasing start. Brian Hughes rides this horse and knows him well and he is nicely weighted with 10-11 on his back.

Racecourse & Time

Advised Stake & Bet Type

Talkischeap

Current Odds:

9/2 Bet365, 888Sport &  William Hill, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Trainer Alan King is prepared to allow Talkischeap take his chance in this valuable handicap so we should take the hint! This son of Getaway has been running in very good company all season such as when twice beaten by the super mare La Bague Au Roi around Newbury. Lostintranslation who ran in both those Newbury races has won a Grade 2 and finished runner up to Defi Du Seuil at Sandown in a Grade 1 novice chase. La Bague Du Roi has won two Grade 1 chases since Newbury so all in all that form is very strong regarding the chances of Talkischeap.

Our selection ran well here last Month over course and distance when second to On The Blind Side giving the winner 6lbs. Talkischeap got in a bit tight to the final fence losing momentum and the winner had flown. The handicapper left Talkischeap on a mark of 145 which has tempted Alan King to aim at this prize and bypass Cheltenham for Aintree or Ayr thereafter suggesting Talkischeap is best around flat courses. Talkischeap is not a very big price but as a progressive unexposed chaser he has a very good chance here carrying 11-3 with Wayne Hutchinson riding.
