Advised FRIDAY NIGHT 21st FEBRUARY

Racecourse: Kempton
Time: 12:40
Date: 22/02/2020
Horse: Palmers Hill
Current Odds: 11/2 William Hill 5 places else 5/1 Boylesports, Skybet, Paddy Power & Betfair SB all paying 5 places
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

Howling Milan might not see up this trip having fallen over the final hurdle when clear at Newbury. It was a tired looking fall. Instead I have it between two ex-Irish point to pointers, namely Downtown Getaway and Palmers Hill. Downtown Getaway was pulled up at Newbury in November and his career is not going well due to injuries having cost his owners £350,000! Our selection is Palmers Hill who is returning from a 461 days layoff. We take on trust that Jonjo O’Neill will have him fit enough to run his race. He is another big purchase costing £310,000 but before his injury was running well and consistently, such as when winning at Cheltenham in November 2018 over a similar trip on good ground.

Racecourse: Kempton
Time: 13:15
Date: 22/02/2020
Horse: Master Tommytucker
Current Odds: 5/2 generally
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 2 Point Win
Selection Reasoning

Master Tommytucker had fallen twice from three chasing starts but remains the horse in this race with the most potential to make it at Grade 1 level. He travels and jumps very well in the main and has suffered from two novice mistakes jumping too low taking a chance at both Chepstow and here at Christmas. When he did stay on his feet it was his superior jump over the final fence that helped him beat Who Dares Wins here in November. This intermediate trip will suit well and I feel if he runs his race and jumps soundly then he wins.

Racecourse: Kempton
Time: 15:35
Date: 22/02/2020
Horse: Sametegal
Current Odds: 12/1 Skybet, Paddy Power & Betfair SB, all three 5 places
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

The race won by Just A Sting at Christmas over course and distance could hold the key to finding the winner of this valuable handicap. Just A Sting, Highway One O One and Sametegal all take each other on again with little between the three on revised terms. The horse that looks best value is Sametegal who is 6lbs better off with Highway One O One and 8lbs better off with Just A Sting when counting jockey Bryan Carvers 5lb claim allowance. On top of the fact that Sametegal is better off at the weights he was lucky to survive a first fence howler in that Christmas race. Bang in contention over the final fence he just couldn’t go with the front two nearing the line. Tomorrow he is at the right side of the handicap carrying 10-3 and should give us a big run for our money despite being an 11yo.

Racecourse: Newcastle
Time: 14:45
Date: 22/02/2020
Horse: Petite Power
Current Odds: 6/1 Paddy Power & Betfair SB 5 places else 5/1 William Hill 5 places.
Advised Stake & Bet Type: 0.5 Point Each Way
Selection Reasoning

A marathon chase run over 4m 1.5f on heavy ground so it will “take getting”! The two I like here are proven stayers Prime Venture and Petite Power who relish testing going. In the end as Petite Power carries 6lbs less weight it is the Fergal O’Brien trained runner we get onside. Liam Harrison (7lb claimer) has ridden Petite Power all season looking well capable in the saddle. Petite Power is in the form of its life having won twice already this season and just narrowly beaten before Christmas.

The win on heavy ground at Uttoxeter catches the eye with Newcastle a similar course. The key bit of form though was in the Classic Chase at Warwick. Petite Power galloped on dourly to claim third place having been outpaced into the straight not helped by Darlac who fell in front of him at the fourth last fence. That was a truly run race where Captain Chaos set a very strong tempo up front jumping for fun.  This race represents a drop in class for Petite Power from Grade 3 to Class 2 handicap level. His trainer has given him 42 days to recover from the Classic Chase taking a similar route to the 2019 Eider Chase winner Crosspark.
