Selection Reasoning:

The ground is good at Haydock which is good news regarding the chances of Red Tornado. Trained in the past by Dan Skelton but now with Chris Fairhurst. To be honest I am not familiar with the current trainer but I did like the ways Red Tornado ran under a welter weight of 12-1 when third behind Dino Velvet at Stratford last Month. That was his first run over hurdles following two flat runs for his new connections. Haydock should suit him well and I can see him outrunning his odds arriving off the back of an excellent run.

Racecourse & Time

Musselburgh – 15:00

Advised Stake & Bet Type

1/2 Point Each Way

Name of Horse to Back

Captain Colby

Current Odds:

 14/1 Betvictor & Betway 5 places else 14/1 Bet365 & Coral 4 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

A new and earlier date in the racing season for the Scottish Sprint Cup which is one of the big sprints handicaps of the season. Usually run following the Epsom Dash in June this new slow looks a good idea offering an early target for these good sprinters. Paul Midgley has a tall reputation as a trainer of sprinters and it is Captain Colby of his three runners that I want to back today. Captain Colby has had a recent run to blow away any cobwebs and should step forward tomorrow. He beat Tarboosh over course and distance last October with Ben Robinson riding and that form is very good.Ben claims a valuable 3lbs and this is just his second run following wind surgery.

Racecourse & Time

Ornate

Current Odds:

 14/1 Betvictor 5 places else 14/1 Bet365 4 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Ornate won impressively at Newmarket yesterday so has a quick turnaround. That is not a big problem for sprinters who race over such short distances. In fact he has won twice when turned out quickly in the past from four runs. Ornate enjoyed himself out in front at Newmarket and will love the drying ground at Musselburgh. He has a 5lb penalty to carry but that is ok for this once 110 rated sprinter who competes off 99 tomorrow. Now might be the time to get him onside when in good humour and winning form. He’s well drawn high in stall 13 with Phil Dennis a regular partner. Trainer David Grifiths is very good with sprinters as shown with his handling of Take Cover these past few years.

Racecourse & Time

Musselburgh – 15:35

Advised Stake & Bet Type

1/2 Point Each Way

Name of Horse to Back

Kelly’s Dino

Current Odds:

11/1 Betvictor, Skybet, Paddy Power & Betfair Sportsobook all paying 4 places, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

Kelly’s Dino will love the good or faster ground with sunshine forecast all tomorrow at Musselburgh. Karl Burke is an excellent trainer and produced kelly’s Dino to run three very good races last summer on quick ground. He won at Ascot beating Atty Persse over 1m4f and backed that run up with a creditable third place at the York Ebor Festival. This season he ran well on the all weather at Wolverhampton where second before failing to fire last time out at Kempton. The switch to turf and step up in trip will help and he’s reasonably treated on a rating of 96.
