Selection Reasoning:

Black Corton arrives here following an excellent second behind Top Notch at listed level. The 2m4f trip around Kempton was never going to be ideal that day, however it was easy to be impressed by how Black Corton stuck to his task and ran on strongly to claim second place. The winner Top Notch and third placed Charbel are both proper Grade 2 chasers so it was an excellent run to split that pair by Black Corton. The three mile trip of this race will suit well and the good to soft ground is ideal.

We can forgive Black Corton his previous run in the Ladbrokes Trophy when never in a good jumping rhythm and unable to lead. If we go back to this time last season Black Corton won the Reynoldstown Chase over course and distance by 8l from Ms Parfois. Bryony Frost gets on great with this horse and hopefully they can put the rest to the sword tomorrow as Coneygree while the most talented horse in the field is not able to string a couple of good runs together in a row.

Racecourse & Time

Advised Stake & Bet Type

Name of Horse to Back

Yala Enki

Current Odds:

10/1 Betfair Sportsbook & PaddyPower else 9/1 Betvictor, Totesport & Betfred all 5 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Yala Enki is aiming to retain this Grand National trial race having won it by no less than 54 lengths last year! He couldn’t arrive here in better form having run crackers in both his two starts this season. He galloped on stoutly to keep third place in the Welsh Grand National having been passed by Ramses De Teillee and Elegant Escape. Ramses De Teillee renews rivalry but off 100lbs worse terms thanks to Ventia Williams booking 7lb claimer Hugh Nugent to ride Yala Enki. Our selection has proven form on good to soft ground unlike Ramses De Teillee who has looked more of a mud lark. It’s a very competitive race with 16 runners. The jumping game needs more of these races than 3 or 4 runner graded events off level weights.

Advised Stake & Bet Type

1/2 Point Each Way

Name of Horse to Back

Carole’s Destrier

Current Odds:

18/1 Betfred & Totesport  5 places else 16/1 generally look for bookies paying  5 places, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

Carole’s Destrier is on good terms with himself having won at Newbury when pouncing late two starts ago. The runner up that day Ballydine franked the form when second to Wakanda in the Peter Marsh chase here last month. This race is over a half mile further and that might be a step too far for Wakanda but not for Carole’s Destrier who has proven form over these marathon trips. He was backed up quickly at Warwick following his Newbury win and fared well considering it was a just two weeks later. Aidan Coleman has been booked to ride Carole’s Destrier and can take his time and aim to pounce late on this 11 year old. His current rating of 138 is well below his highest rating of 154 but that reflects his age. Due to carry 10-8 and with the race likely to be run to suit Carole’s Destrier looks overpriced at high double digit odds.
