Selection Reasoning:

Magic Saint was well fancied in the Grand Annual chase at Cheltenham sent off the 9/2f but didn’t seem to handle the course. We can forgive him his Cheltenham run as previously he won impressively at Wincanton over just short of two miles. This flat course will suit and the drying good is another positive. A five year old who is unexposed despite his rating of 149. He is a safer betting proposition than Azzuri who is well handicapped on his Killarney win last summer but is very inconsistent. Duke Of Navan goes well in this race but might prefer softer going.

Racecourse & Time

Advised Stake & Bet Type

1/2 Point Each Way

Name of Horse to Back

Azzerti

Current Odds:

11/2 Bet365 else 5/1 generally, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Azzerti is a horse we have backed a few times this season without success. He was unfortunate to fall at Cheltenham in January and ran well in a very competitive handicap at the Cheltenham Festival won by Siruh Du Lac. This race looks easier although Kilfilum Cross ran a belter in the Kim Muir finishing second to Any Second Now. The drying ground should allow Azzerti a good shot at staying this trip and using his pace to win at the business end. He is a tough little horse who jumps well and is rated only a pound higher over fences than his hurdling mark.

Racecourse & Time

Newbury – 15:15

Advised Stake & Bet Type

1/2 Point Each Way

Name of Horse to Back

Third Time Lucky

Current Odds:

28/1 Betfred, Skybet & Totesport else 25/1 Boylesports & Paddy Power all paying 6 places, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

The times at Newbury today suggest proper soft ground and that is what Third Time Lucky thrives on. Trainer Richard Fahey likes to target this valuable handicap every year and Third Time Lucky looks not badly treated off a rating of 96 with ex-Irish claiming jockey Sean Davis claiming a further 5lbs off. Sean rode plenty of winners in Ireland for Ger Lyons and is a tidy jockey. Third Time Lucky ran well in the Lincoln at Doncaster beaten just three lengths by the second home Kynren as the winner Auxerre proved different class. That Doncaster run was off a 2lb higher mark on good ground. This time round Third Time Lucky races from a 7lb lower mark (incl. Jockeys claim) and has his preferred soft ground. He has won twice from both starts on soft ground with a mile to 1m1f his best trip. He looks overpriced and should be backed to run a massive race.
