ADVISED FRIDAY NIGHT 07th June

Racecourse & Time

Newmarket – 14:45

Advised Stake & Bet Type

1/2 Point Each Way

Name of Horse to Back

What A Welcome

Current Odds:

8/1 Ladbrokes & Coral both only 4 places, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

Trainer Patrick Chamings has a solid 17% strike rate over the past five years on the July course at Newmarket. He can improve that strike rate with What A Welcome who just failed by a nose at Goodwood over this trip on fast ground a fortnight ago. Last season he won three in a row wining at Newbury and twice at Ascot. The latter win in October at Ascot was over two miles on good ground so we know he is a proper stayer who will get every yard of the 1m6f trip and should enjoy Newmarket which is a galloping course. What A Welcome is rated 100 having won eight races from twelve starts since switching trainers. He is a tough stayer who looks well placed to go close in this valuable handicap with any softening of the ground not an issue for this son of Nathaniel.

Flavius Titus

Current Odds:

13/2 Unibet, William Hill  & Betvictor all 4 places, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

Flavius Titus has run really well on both Newmarket starts this season. First time out he did really well to win considering he was drawn low and had to cross over to the near side rail getting up to beat Summerghand on good to firm ground. On his recent run he looked a big player in the dip but the winner On The Warpath held an advantage and held on well with Flavius Titus losing second place on the line having crossed over to challenge the winner. The handicapper has left him on his mark of 95 and that looks ok especially if not too much rain arrives at Newmarket. Andrea Atzeni is back in the plate and Roger Varian’s string are running great so there are plenty of positives.

Mankib

Current Odds:

5/1 Coral & Ladbrokes, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

A fascinating group 3 and great to see 12 runners line up in a group race rather than the regular small field tactical races we have become accustomed to with little value in the betting markets. Safe Voyage has won both starts this season and looks the one to beat. However, our selection Mankib finished only a length and a quarter behind him over course and distance last time out carrying a 3lb penalty. They race from level weights tomorrow and Mankib can reverse placings and hopefully step forward from his first run of the season. Jim Crowley rides and we know Mankib handles cut in the ground.

Racecourse & Time

Haydock – 16:10

Advised Stake & Bet Type

Name of Horse to Back

Confessional

Current Odds:

12/1 Skybet 5 places else 12/1 William Hill 4 places, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

Confessional won over course and distance on heavy ground from Lord Oberon last October and is handicapped to confirm placings again 4lbs better off on official ratings not including the 3lbs claim not available to Clifford Lee this season. Confessional is a twelve year old sprinter but retains plenty of ability as he proved on his seasonal debut at Chester when third beaten only 2l by Merhoob over five furlongs. The extra furlong will not be an issue and with rain forecast on top of the already soft ground conditions look like turning good for Confessional.

Racecourse & Time

Haydock – 16:10

Advised Stake & Bet Type

1/2 Point Each Way

Name of Horse to Back

Growl

Current Odds:

9/1 Betfred & Totesport 5 places else 9/1 generally, use BOG bookies

Compare odds at http://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing

Selection Reasoning:

Growl is turned out quickly having run well at Ripon three days ago. He was on the far side in a small ground and saw too much daylight as we know this horse is tricky and hard to win with. A bigger field and plenty of cover looks ideal and hopefully offer Paul Hanagan a good opportunity to deliver him late near the line. He handles all ground conditions so rain will not bother him. He’s very well handicapped on his best form but saves plenty for himself these days. Now could be the time to get him onside as he is on good terms with himself and well capable of winning at this level.
