Selection Reasoning:

Muthmir finished second in this race last year when finished off his race well having got caught a little on the inside of Different League. He is nine years of age but Caspian Prince is 10 years so age is not a barrier to these old sprinters going well. Muthmir ran a big race on his seasonal debut in the Epsom Dash handicap carrying top weight of 9-05 with those ahead of him in the first four places all below the 9 stone mark. We can expect this consistent performer to go well again on his second run of the season. He loves fast ground which he gets tomorrow and is well drawn in stall 5 with plenty of pace on his outer which might allow Jim Crowley to slip in behind the likes of Caspian Prince or Garrus.

Selection Reasoning:

Escobar, Rum Runner and Via Serpendipity were the three I narrowed this race down to. We missed History Writer winning here last month having backed him at Epsom where he failed to fire. The handicapper has raised him 6lbs for that win which will make life difficult tomorrow. Rum Runner ran well in this race last season ridden aggressively to get to the front from a wide drawn and still there a furlong out all at the age of three. He has dropped down to a rating of 84 and should run well carrying a low weight of 8-5 before heading to the July sales.

Escobar was runner up in this race last season off a 4lb higher mark. He looks well handicapped and is 7lbs better off with Via Serpendipity who finished third last year. David O’Meara has his string running well of late and has booked Andrea Atzeni to ride Escobar. This hold up horse will enjoy the quick ground but more importantly will surely get a strong pace which allows him to come over the top.

Selection Reasoning:

Enable is the star attraction having won the Arc De Triomphe back to back. It’s a very tough task to make your seasonal debut in such a competitive race and more so dropping back in trip two furlongs. Magical is a class filly who ran well on soft ground at the Royal meeting finishing second to Crystal Ocean. However, I think it is worth taking on the top two in the market with Mustashry who won the Lockinge Stakes in taking fashion.

Mustashry was beaten in the Queen Anne Stakes at Ascot but ran well enough beaten three lengths. His running style in both the above mentioned mile races suggests he will appreciate going out in distance as he was been pushed along in both races looking more of a galloping type. Sir Michael Stoute is enjoying a very good season with his other runner Regal Reality well fancied. At the odds I’d prefer to take a chance on a Group 1 winner who can bounce back to his best form over this 10 furlongs trip. He did win over course and distance in a listed race this time last season.

Racecourse & Time

Haydock – 15:15

Advised Stake & Bet Type

Kelly’s Dino

Current Odds:

16/1 Betvictor, Coral, Betway, Boylesports & Ladbrokes all 5 places, use BOG bookies

Selection Reasoning:

Kelly’s Dino seemed back to near his best benefiting from a recent wind operation. We backed him earlier this season at Musselburgh when he didn’t finish off his race. Ben Curtis must have mentioned his breathing and he returned at Ayr over 1m6f to run a much better race. The handicapper has raised him 2lbs with the winner gone up 3lbs. There is little between them but I think dropping back to 1m4f will suit Kelly’s Dino who has won twice on quick ground unlike Island Brave who likes some cut in the ground. Al Muffrih was on my radar stepping up in trip but is priced up to short and tends to race freely.
