Skybet Chase Saves The Day!

A real shame we do not get to watch Paisley Park, Bristol De Mai, etc. at Cheltenham this afternoon. Thankfully, we have Doncaster to save the day for jump racing fans.

The course has lost both January meetings which just goes to show how wet a winter it has been. Spring is coming up fast and hopefully the BHA can re-schedule the graded races to be run over the next week or two.

The ground is testing and that looks just the job for our selection who won there impressively in December. A couple of non runners has reduced the field to the perfect each way number of eight runners.

Canelo has been good to us this season winning twice at Aintree and Wetherby. He has turned a corner this season since trainer Alan King applied cheekpieces. In between both wins he finished a staying on second to Cap Du Nord at Newbury over 2m6.5f. Cap Du Nord and Canelo have run well upped to three miles subsequently. Cap Du Nord finished runner up to Royale Pagaille and we all saw how good that horse was at Haydock winning the Peter Marsh chase.

Canelo appreciated the step up to three miles when winning the Meyrick chase over Christmas. He jumped and travelled well on soft ground holding off the renewed challenge of stayer Snow Leopardess. At Newbury Canelo conceded 18lbs to Cap Du Nord so he is 6lbs better off this afternoon. Canelo is proven on flat courses with a long straight with Doncaster looking ideal. Canelo can step forward again on his ninth chasing start and exact revenge on the market leader Cap Du Nord.
