Sharpshooter Value Bet – Hampton Novices’ Chase

While Lostintranslation took the Dipper Chase by storm at Cheltenham on New Year's Day, in the quieter setting of Exeter on the same afternoon stablemate WHITE MOON also took a big step forward.

And Colin Tizzard's rising star certainly catches the eye in the McCoy Contractors Hampton Novice Chase (1.50) at Warwick on Saturday.

Well named, he must be the lightest grey in training, and like a lot of the stars in Tizzard's Dorset yard, he was sourced in Ireland where he won a point to point for Paul Cashman. With Tizzard he was a very smart and progressive novice hurdler until he fractured his pelvis in a race at Sandown.Understandably he was out for almost a year but was shaping well in his first chase until he was squeezed for room at the last under Robbie Power at Cheltenham and fell.

He seemed nervous enough on reappearance in a very hot contest at Exeter where he finished fifth to Defi Du Seuil where sharp operators Topofthegame and Black Op completed the placings.Set an easier task back at Exeter on New Year's Day - though over a trip plenty sharp enough for him, 17 furlongs - he toyed with the opposition. Clearly his confidence was back too as a loose horse hampering him four out in no way bothered him as he scooted home for Tom Scudamore.

Scudamore is back in the plate on Saturday nor is it just happy circumstance that he races over three miles. For when Robbie Power hopped off Lostintranslation after the Dipper he immediately nominated the JLT as the target and Tizzard agreed. With Kilbricken Storm redirected over hurdles - where he will be interesting in the Stayers at the Festival - White Moon is now obviously a prime Tizzard RSA contender. He'll get nothing easy on Saturday as likely opponents like OK Corral, Steely Addition and Rockys Treasure need no introduction.

Way Back Then is an interesting outsider but hasn't raced for over a year so is probably best watched this time. At the start of the season Tizzard described White Moon as a dark horse. In truth you'll never see a brighter one!

Don't miss him on Saturday.
