RigadinDuBeaucheneBob Ford was running a big race until taking a crashing fall 4 out last week in the Welsh National but we dust down and go again in search of better luck today at Warwick in the Classic Chase. This is a dour stayer’s race similar to the Welsh National run over 3m5f on Heavy ground.

Ideally we would wish for 16 runners rather than the 15 declared to run as then we could side with Foxbridge as well as our first pick Rigadin De Beauchene. Both horses arrive here off the back good runs but it’s the Venetia Williams inmate that has more experience in conditions. The ground will be very testing and over this marathon trip that looks ideal for Rigadin De Beauchene.

Last time out when winning at Haydock jockey Robbie Dunne who rides Rigadin De Beauchene again got his own way out in front but today he will not get such a soft lead and that is a concern but not a major one. The key to this horse is that he needs to jump as well as he did around Haydock and if that happens he will be very hard to beat.

Rigadin De Beauchene has course & distance winning form having landed this race for connections back in 2013. Stamina is his forte having won 3 times over similar trips on winter ground and that is a major plus at Warwick tomorrow. Admittedly, I find it really hard to nail a Venetia Williams trained winner but hopefully that trend will end tomorrow and we bag back to back winners of this race having backed Hawkes Point to win last year.

Our selection won this same race back in 2013 but there are dangers everywhere today in a wide open race. Alan King has a very good record in this race having won it twice recently and relies on Sego Success & Midnight Prayer today. Midnight Prayer missed the Welsh National with a cough but is ready to roll this Saturday and looks on a nice mark having won the four miler at the Cheltenham Festival in 2014. Sego Success has obvious claims following an eye catching win at Doncaster but might not be at home on this heavy ground & the Paul Nicholls runner is interesting but is a Novice and will find life tough at such a competitive level.
