OISIN TO GIVE RIVALS COLD STARE

Haydock offers the best racing this afternoon where the ground remains on the soft side.

Thankfully, the tempertures are rising with summer weather arriving just as we head into June! We have a strong fancy in the second race which is a sprint handicap. Usually with 16 runners I would back two against the field but today I am keen to back Cold Stare.

Cold Stare is a horse that enjoys cut in the ground and is not badly treated off a mark of 87. Oisin Murphy has been booked to ride this time round. Cold Stare has returned to form on his past two starts finishing second to Rathbone over this trip on soft ground at Thirsk and then fifth over seven furlongs at Goodwood last weekend. Last season he won over 7f on soft ground at Goodwood off a 2lb higher mark. A strongly run race over six furlongs on soft ground could well see him return to winning ways.

Of the rest it is Bielsa who looks a big danger as he ran well at the York Dante meeting until tiring over the final half furlong. Punters have latched onto the good run and it is likely Bielsa will go off favourite. Hyperfocus enjoys this course and cut in the ground and is another danger. However, I really like the chances of Cold Stare over a testing six furlongs and recommend backing him with bookies offer extra places.
