MAGIC AT FAIRYHOUSE EASTER FESTIVAL
A busy day of racing action with seven cards of racing covering both the flat and jump racing codes.
Musselburgh and Haydock host decent cards but it is the Grade A handicap hurdle at Fairyhouse which provides the best handicap of the day. The winner will take home all of €47,200 so you can be guaranteed all runners will be trying their best to land this good pot.
The favourite is Eclair De Beaufeu who has been busy and placed fourth in the County hurdle at the Cheltenham festival just 15 days ago. His hurdling technique is not the best and is easily passed over at at skinny price of 11/4! The two horses I like and believe are overpriced are Magic Tricks & Golden Jewel available at double digit prices.
Magic Tricks is a full brother to Champion hurdle contender Abracadabras and drops back to handicap company. He won his maiden over hurdles in taking fashion at Navan in December showing a great turn of foot. Connections tested him at Grade 2 level on just his second run over hurdles and he got found out behind Dreal Deal. We can forgive him that run as he found some trouble and it was a strongly run contest with an end to end gallop. His latest run was in a Grade 1 at the Dublin Racing Festival when well held by Appreciate It. That winner won the supreme hurdle while the sixth home Gallopin Des Champs won the Martin Pipe hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. It was a strong race and Magic Tricks looks nicely handicapped from a mark of 132 if able to overcome his lack of experience.
Local based vet & trainer Edward Cawley aims his stable star Golden Jewel at this valuable contest. Golden Jewel has some excellent placed efforts in similar Grade A handicaps including a second and fifth in Grade B handicaps this season at Down Royal and Leopardstown. The yielding ground is fine and this strong travelling sort can hold a decent position for his 3lb claiming jockey Chris Timmons. They have kept him fresh since the Dublin Racing Festival and you can bet he is primed to run a huge race at connections local racing festival.
