JAPANESE NAMED IRISH RUNNER HEADS TO YORK

It's a busy day but the best of action comes next week at Royal Ascot.

We do have a valuable six furlong 3yo only sprint race at York to get stuck into this afternoon. 17 runners go to post including a sole Irish trainer runner sent over by Ger Lyons.

Aikido takes aim at this valuable prize with Ger Lyons trusting the excellent 5lb claimer Sam Ewing wiht the ride. This horse has a high head carriage but is honest and genuine having won both recent starts at Dundalk. His latest win was impressive as he did all the work himself up front and held off a good horse in Forest of Dreams nicely in the end.

Aikido is unexposed following four runs and looks nicely treated on a mark of 94 just a pound higher than when winning at Dundalk. Sam takes off 5lbs, so he is effectively racing from a handicap mark of 89 and carrying 9-2.  The fast ground is an unknown, but Ger wouldn’t travel or run him unless he thought he would handle quick ground.

Jadwal caught the eye when forcing the talented Jumby to pull out all the stops to win at Newmarket last month. Jadwal raced nicely in the middle of the pack before picking up to lead and staying on well up the hill finish showing he stays a truly run six furlongs.

He and Jumby quickened clear of the rest like good horses, and I expect Jadwal to confirm placings with First Folio who finished fifth in that race. The handicapper has raised Jadwal 7lbs to a mark of 88. That is tough to take when 2nd in a race but with 9-1 on his back today.
