IT’S SUPER SATURDAY SO LET’S BACK A WINNER!

The July Cup is the class race on the final day of Newmarket's July Meeting.  We take a look at Bunbury Cup which takes place just before the July Cup.

Last years winners Motakhayyel looks primed but it is so difficult to win back to back Bunbury Cups and he carries top weight of 9-10. Instead we back two inform horses carrying less than 9 stone on nice summer ground.

Jumaira Bay carries a 6lb penalty for his impressive win at Chelmsford three weeks ago. That leaves him a pound well in and he is not ground dependent. Last season he ran his best race when gunned down on the line by Brunch while looking sure to collect at York. That race was over 7 furlongs and Brunch has franked that form going up 19lbs higher in the handicap ratings. Jumaira Bay looks to have been laid out for the Bunbury Cup arriving here a relatively fresh and inform horse. He was drawn on the wrong side in the Victoria Cup earlier this season so we ignore that run. As a 4yo he remains unexposed and looks well treated on his mark of 95 today. The way he switched out around horses and then quickened clear at Chelmsford was impressive. A high draw should be a positive as high numbers held sway earlier in the week.

Kimifive finished sixth in this race last season when rated a pound higher. He got caught on the heels of the leaders that day and can finish closer this afternoon. Following his run in the Bunbury Cup last season he just failed to win the Stewards Cup when run down late by Summerghand. That is strong handicap form, with the key to this horse fast ground. Cieran Fallon takes over riding duties on a big day for the jockey as he rides Oxted in the July Cup. Kimifive looks to have been targeted at this valuable race and is 6lbs better off against Ametist who beat him here 16 days ago by over a length. A bit of luck in running is required as he is a hold up horse that likes to come home fast.
