It's Stewards' Cup Day at Goodwood, one of the major sprint handicaps of the summer. Gifted Master was the last time we backed the winner of this race in a nail biting finish!

That was back in 2018 so fingers crossed we have the winner again this afternoon. Only the 28 runners to choose the winner from in one of the best handicaps of the season.

Great Ambassador has had this race his big target this season following an unlucky defeat in this race last season. He hit the front over a furlong out here last season, but the main pack stayed high, and William Buick had to bring him over towards the stands side to keep him competitive and not racing alone, losing out be a length close to the line. That fine effort was backed up his Stewards cup run with a Newmarket handicap win and listed sprint win at York. In the Ayr Gold Cup, he hit the front out of the far side ground carrying 9-9 only to get beaten by Bielsa who raced alone up the stands rail. That is cracking form, and he looks primed for a huge run down 2lbs to a mark of 107 with Saffie Osborne claiming off a further 3lbs. The draw in stall 12 should be fine as they could well come up the middle with the fast ground the icing on the cake for the Ed Walker trained son of Exceed and Excel.

David O’Meara trained the first two home in the Golden mile handicap yesterday. That bodes well for the chances of Summerghand who is preferred over stablemate Gulliver. Summerghand showed up well at Royal Ascot when fifth in the Wokingham Stakes handicap from off the pace. He is a classy sprinter who has come down the ratings from a mark of 110 at the start of the season to 100 today! Fast ground over six furlongs with a strong pace to aim at are his ideal conditions. Last season, he won the Group 3 Palace House stakes beating Oxted at Newmarket and later that summer beat Tabdeed by 2.5l on fast ground once again at Newmarket. Jason Watson is booked for the ride and his confidence is high following his Friday win on Orbaan in the Golden mile handicap.

Of the rest, Tinto & Chil Chil were the final two struck off from the shortlist.
