FOLLOW THIS IRISH RAIDER IN BALMORAL

All racing fans realise that today's British Champions Day must rank as the best quality card of racing produced for a very long time if ever before!

The drying ground has helped attract and maintain all the best horses in training in the Uk along with some proper Irish and French raiders. Enjoy this last hurrah for the top class flat turf horses as the 2021 turf season nears its end. We take aim at the Balmoral Handicap where only a madman would back the favourite at 5/2!

This race is a closely knit handicap with only 10lbs between the top and bottom weights. Yes, the younger 3 and 4 year olds have more scope for progression but will need that against battle hardened handicappers and pattern class runners. Sunray Major is a ridiculous short-priced favourite at 5/2 in a 20 runner Ascot handicap. Much more like it is the Ado McGuinness trained Saltonstall who ran a massive race from a poor draw, three runs ago in the Irish Cambridgeshire.

Fastnet Crown finished a length ahead in third place and franked the form with a solid fifth in the English cambridgeshire from a poor draw. Saltonstall ran well on Irish Champions weekend when beaten two lengths over ten furlongs in a bunched finish premier handicap. He is best over a mile and with some cut in the ground so conditions look ideal and we know he likes a stiff finish following some great runs around Ballybrit in the Galway Festival. I am happy to just back the one selection today with the top of the market horses priced too short in my opinion.
