Fancy Owning A Racehorse Trained by Gordon Elliott at Cullentra Stables

This weekend a few friends and I are really looking forward to having a look around Cullentra Stables where trainer Gordon Elliot (http://www.gordonelliottracing.com)  is based. Gordon is only 33 years old but has risen quickly up the trainer ranks finishing second in the trainer’s table behind Willie Mullins last year.

He is very ambitious and he only moved into this new stable yard a few Months ago. The key to his success like any trainer is winners and Gordon is brilliant at placing his horses to best effect whether in Ireland or raiding trips to the UK especially Perth racecourse.

Having served time with the Tony Martin and Martin Pipe yards it is little wonder that he knows well how to train and place horses to win races. The reason for our trip is that we want to send an ex flat horse to Gordon to see if he can be trained to become a good hurdler and hopefully realise a dream for us all by lining up at the Cheltenham, Aintree or Punchestown festivals next year.

We intend to purchase a three year old off the flat that will be ready for juvenile hurdle races next year (i.e. races limited to 4 yr olds). If you are interested in the idea of becoming a part owner in a race horse then please let me know by emailing info@betalchemist.com .

The aim is to purchase a flat horse using agent Kevin Ross (Bought Imperial Commander & Flaxen Flare) http://www.kevinrossbloodstock.co.uk/ as it is best to leave horse purchase to the expert. No point saving a few bob buying a donkey!

Kevin is very straight and honest and is keeping an eye out for a flat horse rated 70+ that has good form over a mile and a half. So how much will this sure fire winner cost? Well the aim of the syndicate or syndicates is to limit the number of shares in the horse to a maximum of twelve per horse.

As a result the cost per share will be approx. €250/Month or €3000/Year but that all depends on how much the horse costs at the sales. The great thing about buying off the flat is that we have a plan B to fall back on if the horse fails to make it as a hurdler.

We can always revert to the flat or better still have a nice dual purpose horse on our hands. As a three year old, we can realistically expect some good improvement as the horse matures.

Of course as we all like a bet there will be good opportunities along the way to cover costs with bets advised when Gordon thinks conditions are perfect for a big run. All owners will receive regular updates & stable visit opportunities throughout the year along with many other benefits like free entry on race days etc.

So whilst the major national hunt festivals seem a long way off this is the time to kick start the plan to have a chance of a major festival runner and the dream of maybe someday watching your hose win at the top festivals.

The key to success is to have the right expertise on hand and I think we have a strong chance with Kevin Ross and Gordon Elliot on our side. Let me know if you are genuinely interested and ready to have some fun years ahead involved as an owner by emailing info@betalchemist.com .

Back to the now and Newmarket’s July meeting. The July Cup is a great race with all the best 5 and 6 furlong sprinters taking each other on following the Royal Ascot Meeting. Stars like Shea Shea, Sole Power, Society Rock, Lethal Force, Ten force Ten etc all line up against each other for one hell of a competitive race.

Personally, I think it is best to look beyond the five furlong specialists in this race ruling out Sole Power & Shea Shea. Society Rock finished third in last year’s renewal and whilst he is sure to be placed again it is always a bit risky backing him as he breaks slowly most times. Lethal Force won nicely at Royal Ascot and is a worthy favourite with ground conditions perfect whilst at a bigger price Shamexpress from Australia will be better suited by the extra furlong of this race compared to Royal Ascot and can be backed at 16’s.

Best of luck,

Nicky
