“DAS” The Best Chance For Paul Nicholls

Paul Nicholls has a tremendous record in landing the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup having won 5 of the past 10 renewals. This afternoon he runs both Secret Investor and Brendan D'As.
Secret Investor jumped super at Down Royal on his seasonal start but finished tired looking in need of that run. He would prefer better ground than the soft ground he will encounter later today.
The soft ground will not bother Brendan D’as who ran a cracker behind Happy Diva in the Betvictor Gold Cup handicap here last month. That race was run on the old course and over half a furlong shorter. The way Brendan D’as rallied up the hill pulling clear of the rest with Happy Diva hints that he can improve for racing on the slightly stiffer new course. He will need to improve as the handicapper raised him 5lbs for a neck defeat.
Cepage who was runner up last season will go well but the handicapper was very harsh in my opinion raising him 8lbs for an almost 2 length defeat at Aintree. Cepage will need a career best off top weight (11-12) so I prefer Brendan D’as with 11 stone on his back and ridden by Barry Geraghty. Lalor and Riders onthe Storm are non runners reducing the field to 14 runners which means one more non runner and all the extra place bookie concessions are lost to punters.
We will side with just the one selection Brendan D'As, who goes well at Cheltenham having finished third in a Grand Annual and runner up in a Betvictor Gold Cup.

Cheltenham - 1:55

1 Point EACH WAY Brendan D'As (7/1 Boylesports & William Hill, both paying 4 places)
