British Champions Sprint Stakes Prospect

There is nothing I like better than spotting blatant good value when looking at a priced up race. In this case that race happens to be Saturday’s “Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes”, a group 2 race for three year old’s and upwards over six furlongs. Bagging Value prices does not guarantee us a winner but it does guarantee a profit from betting over the long run!

The horse is question just happens to be the same animal Bet Alchemist member’s backed when finishing down the field at Ascot on the 5th October almost two weeks ago. The result says he finished 12th but that does not tell us the full story as he was blocked when making progress up the far rail at a crucial point.

As a result Sirius Prospect’s chances of winning next Saturday have been discarded and he was available to back at 25/1 with at least three bookmakers last night. He finished third in this race last year and with a little improvement can go better this time round. Do check out the prices using www.oddschecker.com to ensure you get the best price. Try and back him as soon as possible this morning as his price will shorten once the 48 hour declarations are confirmed later this morning.

12 months ago when he was third to Maarek and Trainer Dean Ivory reports his charge to be in the form of his life. “He’s spot on and did a nice bit of work this morning (15th Oct). He’s been third in the race before, he likes Ascot and they’ve changed the ground to soft, which will suit him,” said the Radlett trainer.

I believe his price should be around 12/1 so the current 20/1 available should be taken especially as this field is bound to cut up with the ground officially soft at the moment with more showers due.

Recent Eye Catchers for Weekend Ending 13th October

Seussical – Trainer Luca Cumani – Jockey Adam Kirby

Romped home winning by 4 lengths in a class 2 13 runner handicap off a rating of 103! The handicapper has raised him 8 lbs for this impressive victory and his new rating of 111 if fully justified. He has only raced 7 times and who knows how much more he will improve from three to four years old. His owners are Australian so the Melbourne Cup will come into calculations at some stage mentioned Sarah Cumani. Considering the way he travelled and pulled clear he could be a serious horse over a cup trip.

Astaire – Trainer Kevin Ryan – Jockey Neil Callan

There is no big secret about Astaire but the way he held off the challenge of stable companion Hot Streak to win the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket was top form. His new rating of 114 leaves just a few pounds improvement over the winter to be competitive in the Group Sprints next season. Connections will test him up in trip for the Guineas but I do not see him as a guineas horse (miler). He loves to get to the front and bowl along in his races and that will make life difficult over a mile. Time will tell but at the moment I am interested in following him over sprint distances.

Indevan – Trainer Willie Mullins – Jockey Ruby Walsh

Indevan won a competitive Grade 3 Novice hurdle comfortably at Limerick last Sunday. Ruby dictated the pace from the front before kicking for home off the bottom bend. Indevan jumped super and showed too much pace for the runner up Lots of Memories who had previously won at the Listowel festival. A former point to pointer he was sold to Harold Kirk/Team Mullins for 95k last November at Cheltenham. That was some good dealing by the Mullins camp as he ran for the first time in Rich Ricci’s colours at Limerick. Chasing will be his future but for now he is developing into a classy staying novice hurdler.

Montefeltro – Trainer Brian Ellison – Jockey Robert Tart

This horse is improving rapidly and won this race comfortably. He came from the back through the middle of the field with ease and hit the front plenty early enough. He was almost joined by the second horse before quickening clear to win easily. He is one to follow next season with the Northumberland Plate mentioned as his target. “He is a horse with a massive turn of foot, you just have to leave him alone” mentioned Brian after the race also saying he would prefer more cut in the ground.

Best of Luck,

Nicky
