Boy is the Ayr Silver Cup Tricky!

We head to Scotland today and target the Silver Cup rather than the Gold Cup. 24 of a maximum 25 runners go to post with several bookies paying out extra places

Atalanta’s Boy arrives here in top form having won nicely at Goodwood over this trip on good to soft ground. He beat a good yardstick in Woven by over a length at Goodwood. A 5lb penalty is fine as the handicapper has upped him 4lbs so he is only a pound wrong at the weights. Thomas Greatrex is good value for this 3lb claim and trainer David Menuisier said he thought this horse remains on a good mark following his recent win. He is drawn in stall 15 so can do either high or low depending on how the race develops.

Rathbone is having his second run back following wind surgery. He ran well last time out at Ascot going down a head to Fortamour having looked the winner a furlong out. His form this season is good such as when third at Newcastle behind Glen Shiel who has gone on to win a Group 3 and place at Group 1 level. At York in July over 7 furlongs the eye was drawn to Rathbone who travelled the best but just ran out of puff near the line. This stiff six furlongs should be within his compass and he is drawn high in stall 22. Tom Eaves is back in the plate and off a mark of 90 he should be involved in the finish this afternoon.
